high pings

[link to this post]

Hi All,

Just recently i have noticed while gaming that my Pings are very high, usually they are around 35ms at peak times but they have jumped to 150ms +
is this due to congestion on the exchange? or is there something i can do to resolve this?

Your pings to BBC seem to indicate you are on Interleaved mode. Can you tell from your router whether you are on Interleaved or Fast Path? Fast Path is better for gaming, but Orange can't switch you between them as it's all done auto by DLM.

Your game servers must be far away anyway with such high latency.

my router is a netgear dg834gt, i dont see anyway to change it on the router.

the game servers are usually in europe, but the so called uk based servers are usually a higher ping for some reason....

if there is a way to change to fast path on the router could you please advise, but its not a massive issue as i am hoping to change to a fibre connection soon.

thanks for your help so far and i will post more stats later.

Try running this: http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bi... and copy results here.

Router cannot change to Fast Path; only DLM can do that. But let's see what you actually have.

Well done!
In reply to a post by vf12vf:

indicates you are on Interleaved, on Downstream. Ignore
Channel: FAST
It refers only to the Upstream.

EDIT: What is router firmware version? Think it is on 1st GUI page. Seems to give more informative results than mine.
