"anecdotal consumer broadband ISP speed testing data"!

And if you are going to believe these anecdotes, don't you think it is rather parochial to post under Orange but not General?

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC

As OP is a Orange user. I can understand why it was posted here.
As for Polls, they are all based on small samples. Thus can be taken with a pinch of salt .
However, as OP states, Orange may have made a wise move to BT Broadband.

Have just blogged about TalkTalk speeds at http://blog.thinkbroadband.com/2013/05/talktalk-broa...

Will get around to EE/Orange over the next month or two, as want to do all the providers, but am splitting them out, as the varying product ranges make it harder to directly compare these days.

The difference between fibre and ADSL speeds show that without lots of weighting games and decent data on customer numbers for products it is almost impossible to do a simple average.

Unclear what x-axis represents!

Graphs need both axes defined by legends.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC

They are speed profiles, i.e. showing in order of decreasing speed the various tests, there are enough of them forms a nice line.

Or put another way the middle point along x axis is the median speed.

Still don't understand! You mean x represents frequency or %age of population (or negated going by the direction)?

"During the fourth quarter of 2012, Orange generated the most complaints as a proportion of its broadband customer base at 0.70 per 1,000 customers, increasing from 0.50 per 1,000 customers three months earlier."

Sadly, speed isn't everything.
