Upstream Rate IP profile.

[link to this post]

Is it common for your upload speed to be greater than the upstream rate IP profile on a line?
My BTW performance test shows 0.94 Mbps upload speed, whilst saying my upstream rate IP profile is 0.83 Mbps

Now I know you can never attain a greater download speed than your IP profile is, so I assumed this would also be the case for upload.
Don't get me wrong, higher is better but it stood out to me as odd.

No, it's impossible. The Up IP Profile is wrong.

As a rule of thumb for both Down & Up:
- IP Profile = 88.2% Sync
- Throughput ~= 83% Sync

EDIT: Generally I only use the BT Tester to get the Down IPP and even then almost invariable I don't need to go there as I can just calculate it for my reliable line. It's really only useful for users who suspect their IPP may have been capped. Get Throughputs from TBB speedtest.

Or the speed tester is reporting something odd.

Upstream speed testing is a lot more fun to get right

I must admit to being a tad confused with the TBB speedtest page.
BT tester says I have a down IPP of 6.27 Mbps, yet TBB says average download speed of 7.33 Mbps. I think the Avg TBB Download 6 Mbps is the accurate one for the download speed I get. Also the HTTP x6 results, Avg HTTP x6 7.3 Mbps & burst HTTP x6 13.7 Mbps?? How can they be greater than my down IPP when I thought it was impossible to exceed your down IPP?
I get approx. 6 Mbps down & 0.93 Mbps up off sync speeds of 7111 Kbps & 1091 Kbps

Yes, they all correspond correctly to each other.

The TBB speedtest must be misreporting the Down speeds.

Looking at the shape of the graph something is playing around with the multiple thread downloads, this could be your Anti virus or some other software on the PC

Thanks Andrew. I've just done TBB speed test again with my antivirus off and got the following results.

Much better and more normal.

Alas with anti virus doing stuff like checking data there is a tendency for data to be interfered with. If we did not show the graphs people would be none the wiser
