Actually found something TBB & I have in common - It's speedtest hates EE as much as I!

The way ookla calculates the speed can hide that sort of sawtooth effect, so would be worth seeing the graph shown by the ookla test and also our alternate test at http://labs.thinkbroadband.com/ispa

Few hours since tests, so not really relevant, though a bit better now and still the worst.

An overgeneralisation!

I should look nearer home.

EDIT: Did you really need to do the speedtest.net 200ml to Maidenhead?

If we showed just 5.7 Mbps down and 0.7 Mbps up I suspect you would not complain.

The tests are showing possible contention from a source that is not us (I'd have alarms going off it that were the case) and our testing emphasises them, versus Ookla that returns a figure that makes you believe all is well.

Over generalisation is about right as usual from you. For a start, you are WELL over 200 miles out, along with it being Speedtest net that chose the server, it being the fastest.

I am aware on contention, but like many, I prefer to know the maximum line speed I have when the is none, as opposed to an average, or a load of gibberish.

it you want to know the maximum line rate then look at the modem stats.

online speedtests give real world answers.

antivirus software can also lead to confused results

Speedtest.net choose based on latency which is different to fastest

So just take the burst speed then.

We don't treat as dumbies, but present the data for people to make informed judgements and have information so they can move forward and learn by asking questions if they so wish.
