Do other party members give high pings?

[link to this post]

Here's my question. When your on just an average internet connection you get a certain amount of latency when playing online. If your on a very good connection i.e. a fibre internet connection, will you still get the same pings and the same amount of latency if you have someone in your party with an average connection.

If that makes sense.

Thanks

Post does not make sense.

The only thing that matters is the quality of your connection to where ever the game is hosted.

If one other user is on a laggy connection, then you may see their character behave oddly compared to most people in the game.

If playing a game that is hosted on one persons connection, always pick the person with the lowest latency for the hosting.

it might not of made sense but you answered my question. I just wanted to know if someone had a bad connection will it give everyone else latency or just that person.

Technically what MrSaffron said is true, its what should happen, but occasionally, especially during host migration on console games where P2P style networking is rampant it out right fails and can/will pair you with a laggy host which will in turn lag up the game.

I think the OP did make sense, he was just asking if he was on a good connection and someone in his party was on a bad connection would it effect his performance, the answer is no. Saffron then went on to explain how it works.

Latency is sometimes very good (as an excuse) - I have a good connection, but it's that darn latency excuse that I find as a good reason for my occasional lack of skill... crazylaugh

Swear by it, I do. wink

So technically, a fibre connection 40down/10up with a 20ms ping should make you a great host and probably give you a very slight advantage when you do host?

In theory, I would expect most games to auto pick you with that much upstream
