Online gaming (interleaving)

[link to this post]

Can anyone explain to me why, when I first had BT Infinity installed, gaming was so good and so smooth, after 10 days "DLM" the connection went terrible, gaming was unplayable and I would like to know does interleaving automaticly turn on after DLM?

I believe the initial setup is default "fastpath" with little or no interleaving, if the DLM detects a fault, say a faulty modem then it will try and compensate for the poor line by applying interleaving, which I think is a basic way of checking packet integrity, this is what causes such a high increase in pings.

My line is fine though, I have 40M downstream and 10M upstream, but gaming is terrible, where as it was good the first 10 days, do you know how long it takes to recieve a reply from BT_Care or if theres a 3 day wait or what? In desperate need of getting interleaving turned off as I've had this problem for a long time.

Yes around 3 days for a reply perhaps longer over the weekend and done on first come basis, I'm not familar with infinity or alike , I doubt i will ever be again, however the principles off keeping your network wired would be best for gaming.

My views are my experiences.

No problem thanks, yeah connected with an ethernet cable, everything in my set up is fine, its definitely an interleaving issue.

Is there anyone about now working for BT that can check my line to see if interleaving is switched on? or does this only be done through private message?

Go to the forum index and scroll down until you find BT.

There is usually someone there who can help. smile

Interleaving - what was the jump in latency from and to?

Interleaving is usually applied if there are errors on a line, and without it the jitter may have been worse. Interleaving should provide a higher but more consistent latency.

What is more likely is that there was a routing change in the BT Retail network, i.e. nothing to do with the Infinity VDSL connection and your phone line, but more to do with how busy the ISP is, or some other wider network issue.

He could have the same problem as me with having too good a connection now he is on fibre (unless he is pc-ing on dedicated servers).

And as of yet there is still no control over interleaving on FTTC for resellers. frown
