Two PC's one lags, one is fine

[link to this post]

So on my shiny new BT infinity connection, playing Age of Mythology (Titans) tongue

The Pentium D 2.8Ghz PC lags like a [censored] but the core i5 is OK.

Now the Pentium PC is younger than the game, so plays fine, but why th lag on it ?

Have I got to fiddle with port forwarding etc ?

TIA

Probably (need to do some portforwarding) if you are playing on both at the same time and one is getting crowded out.

Otherwise we'd to know more about the situation.

The HH3 does not offer much options on port forwarding.

The old netgear we had gave no prolems tongue

Just because a computer is younger then a game, it doesn't mean it can run all games that are older. There are other factors like do you have enough memory, how powerful is the graphics card.

So the question is this, is this actually lag, or do you have low fps (frames per second) on the old Pentium D ?

Hi,

The pentium D can run the game fine and has done for many years either on LAN or on line, it is running XP Home with 4GB memory (3.5 Gb useable) and it had a low level Gfx card in , I've just replaced it with a more poweful X1950 pro I had kicking around just too help, but it's not fps anyway it's lag in the game.

We used to use the in game ESO.com matching service but now use www.voobly.com.

So a 2v2 game with 3 others around the world runs fine, with two pc's here this one lags badly, it maybe that this one connects last to the game as it is a slower processor etc, so the issue is a second pc not this PC i guess.

The voobly site talk about enabling/disabling Upnp and NAT traversal, the HH3 does not seem to be so user friendly.

I can port forward but only to one PC ?

Unplug your new pc, and just play on the old pc to see if you still have the problem.

I read that the HH3 does not have QOS, so I've splashed out on a cheapy Gigabit router

TP Link Gigabit wireless router

whilst waiting, I noticed my deafult gateway is 192.168.1.254 to get into the HH3 but itself is reporting 217.32.146.160, DHCP addreses it is handing out are in the 192.168.1 range

could that be a problem ?

No, the PCs' gateway is the router and the router's gateway is the 1st hop on the BT network.
