RIP Oculus Rift

[link to this post]

Facebook have paid $2bn for Oculus Rift and news is, devs are bailing out fast.

Markus Persson, creater of Minecraft who had been an early investor in the Rift sums it up well and I'll paraphrase:
Facebook's motives are too unclear and shifting. They lack a stable platform. There’s nothing about their history that makes me trust them, and that makes them seem creepy to me.

They're not a company of grass-roots tech enthusiasts. Facebook is not a game tech company. Facebook only cares about one thing: building user numbers.

So, that's that then I guess. Project Morpheus and PS4 looks like VR's best hope for now. frown

Facebook is great if you're happy being profiled, or simply want to increase the odds of progressing from job application to the interview stage.

I fear you are right. frown

I thought it was good news Facebook buying OR with their huge bank balance to back it up. I don't think it's a problem as long as FB give them the freedom to develop the OR.

That said I think Sony and Microsoft will have the best chance at success as they have the console user bases.
