Vista blank screen on boot up

Hi, On boot up and after the welcome screen, I get a blank screen for a full 90 seconds, Doe's anybody else get this or is there something about to go haywire and cost me a few bob. A few details,

Windows Vista Home Edition (32 bit )
Internet explorer and Opera for browsing
Windows mail
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security

Does Vista have logs? If you can find them perhaps they show what is happening. To me it sounds like some expected hardware or service can't be found and is timed out after a delay. My box (not Vista) does something similar if it can't find a network.

try unchecking ZoneAlarm Extreme Security starting automatically at startup and see if the issue persists...

Thanks john, Sorry i did'nt reply earlier got called away suddenly, I did find some logs (event viewers) but did'nt really understand them, Might have a bit of luck with petsy's suggestion but still waiting for a reply from ZoneAlarm

Hi petsy, Sorry for the late reply, I tried as you said and it loaded ok so i've contacted ZoneAlarm but still haven't had a reply, Will let you know the outcome.

My machine used to do it. I've seen other comments on it as well. There's even a YouTube video somewhere showing it.

I resolved it by switching my machine to hybernate rather than shutdown by default. That way it booted up in less than half a minute anyway. There is a bit of a trick to that though. On a lot of desktops as soon as the machine enters hybernation it comes straight back out again. The solution is to go through all your devices in Device Manager and uncheck 'Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby'.

Thanks Andrue, Yesterday (sunday) it would'nt load at all, I turned it of using the computer and rebooted and it still would'nt load so done a clean install of Vista reloaded ZoneAlarm and so far it's been perfect, I did email ZoneAlarm but haven't recieved a reply but all's well at the moment, Will keep my fingers crossed and hope.
