Does anyone know why LLU seems to have ground to a halt?
If I look at Samknows, then virtually all the ISPs have no more plans. Is Samknows just not up to date, or is that the ISPs are being undercut by 21CN? or is FTTC the reason? or are there other competing technologies out there?
I'm really frustrated that my own local exchange (NSBDS) seemed very close to being unbundled by O2/Be but for the last 6 months the bethere checker gives:
"BUT... some technical problems mean we can't get BE connected to your number straight away. Sorry but there will be a slight delay in getting your number connected to BE. We are on the case though."
Any news, information or speculation greatly appreciated

Both Opal and C&W are actively doing new roll outs this year. Some networks may have stopped but saying LLU as a whole has stalled isn't exactly correct.
LLU providers will generally add their kit to an exchange as long as it is going to give them the ROI they are looking for.
Re: NSBDS - I seem to recall that O2/Be had quite a few exchanges with RFS dates but they have slipped over the years, or been removed completely. It could be that your exchange no longer falls within their master plan (users per exchange for take up?). That's assumption.... not why they may have removed the RFS.

Does anyone know why LLU seems to have ground to a halt? LLU is just the name of a process whereby BT lets other companies install their own equipment in exchanges. LLU itself can't grind to a halt because the option always exists and there has never been any particular intention as to how many exchanges will benefit.
The companies doing LLU have no particular schedule in mind. Their criteria for unbundling an exchange is 'will we make enough money?'. They will only unbundle your exchange if/when it makes sense to do so. That might be this year, next year or never.
These days all the easy exchanges have been done so in that sense progress is slowing. It may eventually stop altogether. Some exchanges are just never going to make money for anyone and people on those exchanges probably should be grateful to BT for bothering.

I read at the weekend that Sky had stopped LLU'ing new exchanges.

Hmmm. I found out a couple of weeks ago that TalkTalk was finally unbundling Llandudno. My theory is that it's a side-effect of WBC enablement. BT have finally been forced to upgrade the links along the A55 and now they can afford to offer decent backhaul to LLUOs. It'll be interesting to see if anyone other than TalkTalk go for it.
Mind you it'll also be interesting to see if TalkTalk really are doing it. So far all my parents have is a sign in the CPW window and me being told on these forums by a rep.. Samknows doesn't list any activity and TalkTalk's own website says nothing either. Strange given that the date is supposedly the 12th of this month.

TalkTalk has the scale of economics to a scale that no other provider matches for LLU, hence continued roll out

I think you'll find that many haven't been LLU'd because there isn't space in the exchange for the kit, or no available backhaul. As ADSL kit becomes more compact, you may see some smaller exchanges getting some LLU, but not all. There's an exchange not more than 10 miles from here which is the size of a garden shed, with a generator exhaust spout sticking out of the front door. I think it will be some time before subscribers there get LLU.

TalkTalk has the scale of economics to a scale that no other provider matches for LLU, hence continued roll out That's a very good point - but don't Sky have Easynet to help out?
Anyway the North Wales coast has had no LLU for years so I'd have thought it was now a cherry ready to be picked. If there has been a backhaul upgrade all along the A55 that would suggest in excess of 50,000 people are now ripe. We shall see

Easynet is business customers, i.e. price not volume.
TT/CPW/Opal buying Tiscali gained access to more fibre backbone, which can put more exchanges within cheap reach of their network.
TT certainly expect 80% coverage, question really is will they adopt FTTC or start their own duct usage to do FTTH on their own.

Exhaust should just be for emergency backup power, probably smaller to install than batteries.
LLU kit does not need to be in the exchange, options exist for it to located in a nearby building.
