Termination fee if move to LLU provider

[link to this post]
Hi;

I am in the process of switching from BT to Talk Talk, and my current ISP has requested a 'termination' fee of around £30?

If I was to move to a non-llu provider (and asked for a MAC code), they have said would not be payable?

I thought termination fees vanished a few years ago? Anyone able to enlighten me?

Thanks in advance

You should have been able to do a move using a MAC to LLU. It is possibly down to what you requested of BT - If you requested to "cancel" then they may have cancelled your line which does carry a termination charge. Going from some forms of LLU back to BT can incur a cancellation charge. The magic work with BT is "migration" not "cancellation".

They should have caught this but given the contact centre is script based they will do what you ask rather than what you mean. Can you get BT to cancel the cancellation and provide you with a migration code (MAC) instead?

Termination fees are more common in broadband than years ago, mainly to encourage people to use the migration route. You are migrating your broadband (not cancelling).

Who is your current ISP? As I read your post the phone is BT but not the broadband.

In any case, as has been said, a migration to LLU should not incur a charge. The phrase used is IIRC "if the published procedures have been used".

Hi;

Quick update. I followed the advice on this thread and my ISP are going to refund the charge.

Apparently it was exactly as described, and I quote;

'the confusion has been caused as the migration report from Bt showing you are leaving stated a new code that is very similar to that of a phone line cease and the automated system did not pick up the difference"

So thats saved me a few quid smile

Thanks again
