Orange broadband very slow

[link to this post]

Is anyone else experiencing very slow speeds over the last few days with Orange. It's not too bad early morning and late night, but during the day (peak times I guess) the laptop (wireless) is virtually unusable. The PC is wired and very slow. The router is an Inventel Livebox. How can I check whether the problem is at my end, or with Orange. I have tried to phone Orange, but the queue is quite long!
Thanks in advance

LLU or ADSL Max?
Sync Speed or download speed?
Could you have been throttled due to excessive usage?
Post your router stats.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU BB

Thanks xray. I guess I'm LLU (comes in on BT landline?)
Tried a download BB tester last night, started at 32Kbs reduced to
0 and never finished the test.
Definitely not been throttled, don't do much downloading
Not sure how to get info on router, I'll see what I can find out.
Seems better this morning but will prob deteriorate as the day goes on.
Thanks for your reply

All Orange broadband comes in on a landline.

Which package are you on? Does this speed tester run or does it give an error message? (It takes a while to respond after you enter the requested details).

Please post the full results if it runs and the error message if it doesn't.

Roberto, Orange is not like O2. All their packages have the same BB with diff phone extns. It's just a matter of "in or out of area". Proper router stats would tell us or, as you suggested, BT Speedtester.

k thanks smile.

But yes, the BT test is the diagnostic tool in the absence of stats.

A year ago you said that you weren't on LLU:
In reply to a post by jason44p:
This is apparently because I am outside the orange network area and third party suppliers have increased their prices.
Have you been uprated since?

Thanks again for replies. Speeds have been low all day now back up to "normal". BT speedtest gives 1841Kbs which is as much as I can expect, and good enough for me. I can only guess that Orange may have had reduced bandwidth for a few days for some reason. Think I'll change as soon as my contract expires. Getting through to their technical help line has not been easy! (In fact I never did).
X-ray, sorry about confusion over LLU. Still don't know what it means, but thought LL stood for land line as opposed to cable or satellite.
Thanks again for help

LLU = Local Loop Unbundling

Basically it means the ADSL part of your phone line is plugged into equipment not belonging to BT in the exchange. This gives the ISP many more options for speed and data allowance than using BT's facilities.

(You can have LLU for voice as well, this is what TalkTalk does for example).
