Anything I should do to improve these stats?

[link to this post]

Uptime: 0 days, 20:04:37
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,252 / 9,525
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/kB]: 3.65 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 40.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 7.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 112 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 10 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 14 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 40 / 63,581
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 40 / 39
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 130,414 / 26

Pretty grim amount of errors there.. although the quiet line test is utterly silent. Any suggestions as to what I might try?

Cheers,
Blueacid

Is this something that has just happened, and if so what made you look? Or has it been going on for a while and you've only just got round to it?

I'd say it was an internal problem, due to the high upstream HECs and error seconds. The downstream errors are negligible.

It's a friend who was asking about his slow connection (6mbit downstream, 27dB downstream atten). He was looking for his router stats, and I said "here's how mine loo-oo....k. Oh."

I'll have a look at my internal wiring, will see what I can do smile

"Up" errors don't get cleared when you reboot the router as they are kept on the DSLAM. You probably have to force another modulation type to reset them.

Yeah - I was about to ask. I've just gone around and removed all the cables but 2 & 5 from the phone sockets.

Link Information

Uptime: 0 days, 0:01:37
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,265 / 10,101
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 40.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 275
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 134,569 / 0

That's where we're at now; looks like HEC errors are being remembered.

That's a nice gain in downstream sync. Do another re-sync in daylight tomorrow and you should get a bit more.

Keep an eye on upstream error seconds.

Still got an error second; not great!
Either way, I'll resync tomorrow when the sun's up. Turned out that I just needed to do a lap of the place and disconnect all telephone cables bar 2 and 5 smile

dont worry to much about the errors at this point. lets wait until tomorrow and see what the story is after a sunrise reset
