Definition of speed on VM cable

When Virgin Media say 20M or 50M what is the speed they are referring too, ie how much overhead if any is included ?

20Meg of IP throughput is possible.
Connection speed is a little about the sold speed, I think 50Meg connects at 51 or is it 53 Meg

Guessing someone is reading ASA stuff, easy answer to the thing

1. Never advertise a speed
2. Name packages in relation to a usage amount
3. Sell packages based on lifestyle

Typical speeds while they will bring down the disparity do nothing to help really, unless there is 100% independent testing and verification of this (i.e. costly) and even then it does not relate to an individuals line and amount of congestion.

actually the journalistic fails ahead of the ASA stuff coming out (I guess they're reading an embargoed copy)

I agree with your solution

Salad, Chicken and Steak broadband it is.

So 20M of IP throughput = speedtest of 20M or 19M ?

Typical speeds are useless, I get 8M so tellin gme 4M would be silly, equally it wouldn't cheer up the guy on a fellside getting 0.5M.
