Can't find my ISP in the speed test list

[link to this post]

My Utility Warehouse unlimited broadband just went live today. So I was curious and did a speed test. To my surprise there's no "Utility Warehouse" company in the dropdown box when we name our ISP. Instead, "Talk Talk" was detected.

Does anyone know whether Utility Warehouse really is a VISP (virtual ISP)... similar to how virtual mobile phone networks operate (ie, they use T-Mobile as backbone for their mobile phones).

They are a VISP as you divined smile.

See this answer to the question of who they use for supply.

Same applies to their phone services.

My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - IDNet Home Starter Fibre. Live BQM.

Is that good or bad? So Talk Talk sold some bandwidth to UW... and it all depends on traffic that will determine the virtual ISP speed...?

Utility [censored] tend to sell through some Amway style multi-level marketing scheme I think, the underlying product can be reasonable but a friend of mine had a service reduction moving from tiscali to them (she did it as a friend was selling it).

I think I see about 50/50 praise and damnation of UW on these forums. It does seem to be very variable.

Seems to be a sort of pyramid selling operation. You sign up as a referrer for them and get commission, or something similar.
