Fibre or not?

[link to this post]

My exchange is EMBREAD.
Samknows has stated for a while that FTTC would be enabled in Sept 2011. I've recently seen a lot of Openreach activity and now Samknows states FTTC available in some areas.
I'm a bit confused by this, does this mean that only certain properties will be enabled or will it be rolled out to the whole exchange?
I finally thought my years of 2.5Meg were over, surely my hopes wont be dashed again? frown

Check what the BT Wholesale Checker states for your telephone number in the first place.

This will give you an indication if the PCP you are connected to has been given a date for FTTC going live. If no date is available, then your CAB is not yet planned.

No mention of FTTC on the checker.
So how long am I looking at for fibre? Days, weeks, months?!?!?

BT, like God, moves in mysterious ways their wonders to perform.

It's all market-driven, they want to make a few £££ for the Shareholders.

However, saying that, my Exchange (Newport Pagnell in Bucks) was enabled fairly early on and my village got FTTC a few months ago. Was one of the first connections to the Cabinet and it's a great improvement to the previous 1.5Mbps ADSL speed.

This Exchange is not exactly the centre of Empire, so there is hope for you yet.

I was under the (probably naive) impression that once the exchange was enabled, all the cabinets would be enabled, thus all properties would be able to get it, a bit like LLU. So what you're basically saying is that although the exchange is enabled it could be a long time before I can get it? frown

You may never get it. Your local cab needs to be "enabled". Look for a newish looking cab next to the old one.

There is an Openreach document leaked recently, that detailed exactly which PCP's would be FTTC enabled. Maybe someone on here still has a copy and would be able to give you some info?

Thanks for that BatBoy.

Eddie,

If you download that Document, you can check on you Post Code if your PCP is in line to be FTTC enabled.
