Local newspaper item in N Wales

[link to this post]

I spotted an item in the local newspaper saying BT were introducing "high speed broadband" to some of the exchanges to me, namely Colwyn Bay, Abergele, Prestatyn and Llanwrwst.
It says-
"Colwyn Bay residents are among 25,000 homes set to benefit from faster broadband next spring as one of 18 communities included in the plan for BT's next generation of broadband. New copper lines will offer up to double the speeds currently available.
Speeds of up to 20mbits will be available" (paraphrased long quote, Colwyn bay Pioneer,5/10/11).

As far as I can see the only thing that has changed is that my exchange has a 21CN date of May 2012. AFAIK thats an exchange upgrade isn't it, not a cable laying excercise-
Is this what they are likely to be talking about? If so I dont think it will make a great difference to me with a 48db line!

Without seeing if there is an online version, from what you say the reporter and presumably the editor haven't a clue what they are talking about. Even to the extent of mentioning NGA.

I think this is referring to the introduction of ADSL2+ by BT Wholesale at the exchanges.

Precisely.

That is not Next Generation Access, and is unlikely to involve any new copper.

Itís sad, very likely you have LLU on your exchange already and in some areas in south Wales who are on the same list have full VM services.

I emailed BBC Wales who ran this over week ago regarding misleading reporting as yet, I have no reply. However I received an apology from BTs Senior Media Relations Manager in Wales, with regards to inventing new counties in Wales, within one hour.

21cn. Go to this site to see what is available-

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

To the right of page after you have put in your postcode you will see if there is LLU presence which is similar performance to 21cn

Abergele Colwyn Bay Central & Prestatyn have TT & Sky LLU already.
