BT speedcheck higher than thinkbroadband speedcheck results?

[link to this post]

Been having intermittent annoying glitches on PC so started checking PC health out.
After running full system virus scan, deleting old files, disk check, defrag disc started speed checker from bt's desktop help i can verify exchange speed then run a syste/network speed check which gave 5.5 kBps from the possible 8.1 kBps exchange speed. After running thinkbroadbands speedchecker or any body elses i only get 1.5 kBps max.

I have checked filters, cabling, etc as well as resetting hub to default and reconfigure hub still same results.

So why does bt's speed checker give higher results?

Constructive advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Post results of BT Speedtest up to end of Upstream results and the thinkbroadband forum code from TBB.

Then post router stats.

Your speeds should be in kbps. None of these checks report in Bytes.

Thanks for replying and sorry for not knowing my bits from my bytes XRaySpeX. Just been checking broadband usage at mybtservices and it does seem a bit higher than what i would expect so have installed tbb meter so i can keep an eye from my desktop sort of style. It is a possibility that i am being throttled due to fair usage policy but when this has happened in the passed there was an email notification that the upper limit of fair had been reached! Not this time though-possible piggybacking i dunno but have started spending time to try to see what is using my hub/internet usage nothing obvious. I have been looking for applications running that do or could use internet access and have disabled a few which has made a possible slight difference to speed test.

It is a BTHome Hub 2 i use and is about 8"square n couple inches thick.
could you be more specific which or what stats? The only thing i could find was FECN errors here
ADSL line status
Connection information
Line state Connected
Connection time 4 days, 3:40:38
Downstream 8,128 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
ADSL settings
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 9.8 dB / 22.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 30.0 dB / 16.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 19.8 dBm / 12.1 dBm
Loss of Framing (Local) 0
Loss of Signal (Local) 0
Loss of Power (Local) 0
FEC Errors (Down/Up) 1646880 / 21
CRC Errors (Down/Up) 634 / N/A
HEC Errors (Down/Up) N/A / 14
Error Seconds (Local) 460

Is there a thinkbroadband forum code?

Could you be more specific what you think would be relevant for you to advise XRaySpex,PLZ

You are not being throttled; you are getting full 8 Meg Sync on your IPStream connection.

You queried speed test results. So where are they?

When you do a TBB speadtest there is a line below "thinkbroadband forum code" within [...]. Put that in your post incl. the [].

The BT speedtest you just posted looks not bad; perhaps just a bit low, would expect about 6.6 Meg..

What's mybtservices?

and here is tbb results
Speed Test Results
Date 17/12/11 00:08:52
Speed Down 1973.54 Kbps ( 1.9 Mbps )
Speed Up 373.28 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest2.thinkbroadband.com

I know this might take a while to sort out. Noticed it only three or four days since reset hub so maybe still finding its way. Still quite a difference between the two tests just want to understand why n how. If i try port 80 test then results the same so not a port/firewall issue (i think) Any ideas to why difference?

As far as I know, the BT speedtester has almost always shown better results than the TBB speedtester - something to do with the number of "threads" used.
Try a single thread tester, eg uno, and see how close you get to the TBB results.

But not over 3 x faster! For me it's usually slightly slower.

Sometimes TBB speedtest is slowed down by routing/peering issues on its path to you.

At OP: Try http://www.speedtest.net/

TBB speed test has proven to be a reliable and efficient tool for me in the past. I never have used bt's speed test before. Recently been port forwarding for online gaming so have become a lot more familiar with hub manager as well as using desktop help to access speed test as well as signing in to mybt and after selecting the services's tab there is a broadband usage meter(that is how much used compared to allowance)
I was unaware there was a difference between the two just assumed that hey should be the same I have had up to 6.8 mbps results from tbb in the past.

i google uno...
