TBB speed test has proven to be a reliable and efficient tool for me in the past.

I think, to all intents and purposes, it is reliable - if a little pessimistic. But the best way of really testing your download speed is for you to clock how long it takes to download a file. TBB offers you this facility.

Try switching to using the port 80 option on our tester, also tbbmeter has a built in multi thread test too.

Most likely the ISP has identified our tester traffic as P2P, due its non-standard protocol

I tried the same BT tester on a machine yesterday. It gave a result of 5.2M on a connection that only syncs at 3M! According to the user, it's almost always showed his download speed to be around 5M.

Nope..... It was running Norton 360 - But I run KIS and don't see any problems.
