Packet Loss And Latency Advice

[link to this post]

Hi There,

First post, I need some advice regarding the results from the Broadband quality monitor..... (Apologies if its in the wrong place..)

Over the last few weeks Ive been experiencing online gaming issues and also streaming issues on my xbox360. I use the Sky go app on my 360 to watch films an sport with my family and certain time throughout the day its impossible due to buffering and freezing. Ive reported my issues with Virgin (tried to post on the bband forum with virgin and got no response) and at first they advised there was an outage which was resolved and the problem persists. Ive checked and tested both wireless and wired, also checked routers settings e.t.c

I registered and started to use the quality monitor (shots below) and can see the average latency and vol of packet loss increase between in line with peak times but at what level would it be impactingmy service? would you say the results are poor?

Just helps me to understand the monitor and share my results with Virgin.

Thanks

That is very bad the BQM graphs that is.

Suggests a lot of congestion in your area on Virgin Media, hence their investment in capacity coming up, and the various speed increases too.

Thanks MrSaffron,

The quality monitors are a big help.

I provided Virgin with various tests including the monitor results and received no response not even to just say theres over utilisation in my area. Guess its a case of waiting for the capacity increase.
