Google Search location

Anyone else having difficulty changing their location in Google Search?

Mine has settled on Birmingham - which it presumably picks up from a server location (?), and reverts to that even when I try to change it.It's only been happening the last few days - prior to that it would happily accept that I am in Droitwich Spa

Hi Michael,

Oh yep! We have a range of locations in the office on different staff machines, all of which don't seem to allow it to be changed.

My personal machine won't adjust from Cheltenham which I have not been to since I was 11.

What is a Google Search location?

When I Google, I can only either search the Web or UK Pages only; the latter only cuz I subscribe to Google UK.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 19 Meg WBC

I'd guess it's the location Google 'auto-detects' for where you're located. It's on the left side of the Google search page just above where it says Change Location. Mine currently says London, UK but tomorrow it'll be somewhere else.

I could set mine to Droitwich until a week or so ago, but it just rejects that now. I have found though that it will accept my postcode. It's the same on FF and IE

It uses it for targeting advertising local to where you are - it's not life threatening, but I don't want anyone to think I'm in Birmingham!!
