Curious... speed slow down

[link to this post]

Just curious...

During daytime, surfing webpages and watching YouTube videos are smooth.

During evening, Youtube video is very slow and buffers all the time. Surfing webpages are slower too.

My question:

Is this the result of my ISP? Or my exchange? Or something else?

I am trying to work out which one of them and would I see better result if I change ISP or not?

Thanks.

That sounds like it's probably your ISP that doesn't have enough capacity at busy times.

You could also check to make sure your router's connection speed (sync) isn't changing during the evening.

It can be simply the level of traffic.

The whole system works on an CSMA principle - just like the motorway system.

Collision Sensing, Multiple Access.

Drive down the motorways in the early hours; and generally you can travel at 70 MPH etc.

But try doing the same journey around the peak traffic periods.

Don't take it too literally; but there are many resemblances.

It stays the same all the way so don't think it's that.

Sounds like ISP capacity problems to me.

But it could be Exchange congestion as others are saying. You can check the status of your exchange here: http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/

Looked it up, it states:

There are currently no known capacity problems on your exchange. There may still be an exchange problem, however BT are not currently reporting that they are aware of it. Please contact Support if you are having speed problems, who can advise further.

As I mentioned it sounds like ISP capacity problems to me smile

I take it you are happy no one else is using/stealing your bandwidth in the evenings?
i.e. It's not just due to more people in your household using the internet and if you have wireless it's secure?
