What type of internet/ISP to go for?

[link to this post]

Hi all, Im looking to change ISP from VM as I've gotten into online gaming and since im in a non fibre optic cable area the speed and connection im getting is just too slow and unreliable.

Ive been on samknows and have the broadband checker results but Im a bit of a noob to all of this and could do with some connection and ISP recommendations.

The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL, BT Wholesale ADSL Max, BT Wholesale WBC (21CN), BT Wholesale SDSL, BT FTTC, AOL LLU, O2 / Be LLU, Bulldog LLU, TalkTalk (CPW) LLU, Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU, Pipex LLU, Tiscali LLU, Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)

You are approximately 1.56km from the exchange (Leamington Spa)

Let me know if you need any more information smile

A BE reseller on a monthly contract would be fine enough

Maybe vivciti or xilo.

This what you meant?

Ok so thanks to this website I can now see there are plenty of good options here. I guess what I should be asking now then is what sort of download/upload/peak allowances should I be looking at if Im gaming a couple of hours a day, streaming videos and downloading the occasional torrents (at different times of the day due to shift work)

BT FTTC = BT Infinty, and If you've got BT Infinity in your area then it's a no brainer.

You should see around 4.5M throughput on ADSL2+ and someone like BeThere would seem to suit your needs. Sky would also be a good choice but be aware that Sky is a full LLU service which means that your telephone will also be taken over.
FTTC (Fibre Optic) is also available at your exchange but may not be at your cabinet.

From your opening post - "the speed and connection im getting is just too slow and unreliable". Putting that together with these stats suggests you have something wrong with your connection. With a 50dB attenuation you should have a higher speed that that.

Please can you do a reconnection and take the stats again straight afterwards? That will tell us a setting that we can't be sure of from these.
