Poor performance on upgrade?

[link to this post]

line stats

Connection Speed 8527 kbps 1099 kbps
Line Attenuation 36 db 9 db
Noise Margin 3 db 2 db

my isp is adsl24 got a email informing me that i was getting upgrade to an unlimited usage account, seems like i got switched to adsl2, my previous line stats were similar held 8128kbps and 448 or 488 cant mind sorry, so why such small improvements in line speed?
the noise margin was 5-6 on the download side depending on the day and something silly like 25 on the upload side

on some of the adsl2 quesstimates reckons i should be at around 13mb

other info

router dg834v1
long extension line probably non twitsted
old filters from when adsl came out

cheers

router dg834v1

The router might not be helping. The v1 is VERY old... and was never an ADSL2+ router out of the box.

Netgear released the upgrade via software which never appeared to work great on some lines.

If you can try a newer router such as a v4 (skip the v5), or a broadcom-based router like the Billion 7800N, you might get better rates, however....

13Mb at 36db seems quite optimistic.. but does depend on the quality of the line (and the equipment used).
