Escape from Virgin Media - is it possible?

[link to this post]

Hello Everybody

We have fibre-optic broadband attached to our house ... which at the moment connects us to Virgin Media. Their broadband service over the past year has been little short of dreadful and we wish to 'escape' from them.

Other than having copper phone lines attached to the house (which we don't want) is there any other broadband and phone supplier - now or in the future - who we can switch to and whom will use the existing fibre-optic cable and therefore allow us to escape the clutches of Virgin Media?

Many thanks for any kind responses

You have a coax metal cable to the house, Virgin Media is a FTTN service.

Virgin Media does not offer access to its cable network to any other provider at this time.

Have you complained to Virgin. They're usually not too bad! Probably a fault somewhere

VM are usually pretty good at dealing with faults, though I would be interested to know in which way the service has been poor. If you are going just by speedtests, well these are pretty unreliable especially if your PC is under-powered. If you have noticed you cannot do things with your service that you would expect to be able to do then their may be a fault. If so submit your fault here. VM Support forum The techies here can raise a ticket for you to get an engineer out. You can also get friendly help from VM users at VM cable forum

I would be surprised if you don't get some satisfaction via those locations. However VM has been having some difficulty recently with its exit points to 3rd. party networks, ie the wider internet network. Its own network has been working well with speed doubling.

Virgin Media: 100mb/10Mb , land line, mobiles x2, TV - VIP HD box + TIVO 1Tb box.
