New ADSL2++ (ADSL 4)

[link to this post]

Hi all ... reading around for some infos have found there is a new adsl standard for testing
The ADSL2++ or ADSL 4
Is up to 4.4 mhz and speeds up to 50 mbps down and 5 up

a small info here
http://www.spirent.com/~/media/Datasheets/Broadband/...

at the PDF and benefits section says
As stated in ITU-T xDSL specifications, testing with a noise
crest factor of less than 5 does not represent real world
conditions hence, your modem and DSLAM test results may
be inaccurate. Using the DLS-5200EP as part of Spirent’s
European test solution ensures that tested modems and
DSLAMs work where it counts—in the field

&
With extensive market and technology expertise leveraged
from Spirent’s active participation at all major standards
meetings including ETSI, ANSI, ITU-T, IEEE 802.3, and DSL
Forum, Spirent DLS equipment provides the industry’s most
accurate and repeatable results—ensuring your equipment is
designed for peak performance

Anyone knows from your knowledge if is compatible with the normal adsl2+ modems

Thanks for your time

A new standard is very unlikely to be compatible with current modems although a firmware upgrade may be possible if there is no hardware restriction.

Plus, it would take potentially years to go through UK testing to allow it (got to ensure it doesn't impact on crosstalk for existing services).

Likelihood is it would never be rolled out in the UK as we are moving more to FTTC/VDSL and this feels like a backwards step or infill technology that could be very difficult to find a niche.

Hello thanks for reply ... perhaps never comes in UK but if is cheaper solution to vdsl maybe around Europe .. can not say about the cost but seems easy solution as looks is based on wireline simulator & noise generation system ... i am not that expert to tell if is easy option to fit around the local dslams

It might have value for short EO lines I suppose.

I wonder if there is such a thing as ADSL1+ for a long line (with no cabinets i.e. EO) i.e. DS attenuation greater than 58db?

Somehow FTTP isn't likely out here in the heather sticks despite what the SNP/ wee Eck like to spout. tongue smile

Unlimited bandwidth. No traffic shaping by the CP. Pay by usage.

Pre-shaping by the customer mandatory.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 59.4/14.4Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

And they tell you exactly how much the data transfer cost will be BEFORE you send it.

Recovery from a lost packet can be problematical.
