Want to change from BT infinity as it's too expensive

[link to this post]

Hi

I have been with BT infinity since May 2012.
I hae enjoyed the service but am finding it too expensive.

I tried to go with plusnet phone and internet but they said that as I am with BT infinity, I cannot move over to them frown

I don't want to be trapped with BT, please could someone help me find a phone and internet package which is cheaper. I still want wifi but I don't mind not having fibre optic.

Thanks

Sounds wrong, plenty of people move their phone and broadband to PlusNet.

You get the MAC and PlusNet set everything up.

That doesn't sound right. Several people on these forums have done so.

You would need to get a MAC from BT. When you ask for that they will try to persuade you to stay by offering discounts, but it's up to you what you do then.

If you go into the ordering system on the Plusnet site, for either fibre or ordinary broadband, you should have no trouble.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 56.6/14.1Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

phone BT, say you want to leave /ask for a MAC, they will try to keep you as a customer and usually offer more competitive pricing.

If you're on a contract package when does it finish?

I personally moved from BT to Plusnet about one year ago. For the same reason your considering the move, namely, Plusnet was much cheaper if counting the whole package (phone package and internet). I moved from BT FTTC to Plusnet FTTC, no engineer needed. I was not interested in BT sport, so that was no consideration for me, you may be different. The only reason I could think of plusnet saying you cant join them is if you have a contract that has not run out yet , eg your 6 months into a twelve month contract. Otherwise there is no reason you can't switch. BT retentions did ask me what deal I was getting with Plusnet to see they could match. When I told them they just said...... Oh.

Being in contract or even owing money to losing ISP is not a valid reason for gaining ISP to refuse a MAC. The outstanding contract and any outstanding termination fees can always be settled normally with the losing ISP.

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.

I have got BT infinity, and that is why plusnet sales would not take me as a customer.

I am not tied in to the contract as that ended in May 2013.

When I tried online to join plusnet, there was no option for me, and this is why I rang their sales.
Is it because I have infinity that plusnet won't take me?

thanks and sorry to be a pain.

You must be doing something wrong.

When you say there is no option for you, what do you mean and where?

(I think you will find your BT contract ended in November 2013, not May, unless you got a special deal to avoid the 18-month minimum term. But it doesn't matter, you are out of it anyway smile).
