Expected speeds

[link to this post]

I currently live about 2.5 miles from my exchange and get 2.5 m down and .5 up. A new green box is being installed about 75 metre's from my house (f.t.c). My question is what sort of speed could I expect when the box is up and running if I do not change my broadband package to a fibre package.

Approximately 0.00Mbps improvement....

The new green cabinet currently be install is for a newer VDSL service or as known here FTTC... this is what is classed by ISP's as Fibre, if you want to benefit from the availability of this I would recommend you contact your provider to upgrade your service once it has been fully installed and activated.

The new cabinet should have no effect, as others have indicated. However, there will be changes in cross talk levels as people move across which could result in a minor improvement or worsening of the connection.

Thanks for all the replies, looks like I will be signing up to a fibre package. In general how many houses can be served by these green cabinets ?

Between 96 and 288 premises depending on which size cabinet is used

As MrSaffron says. See these pics for the three main FTTC cabinets, the 288 and 128s. (The 128s should be labelled 96).

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

If people move to fibre, why would that make adsl worse?

Can only make it better i thought as less people connected means less crosstalk

Because of the potential cross talk from the FTTC lines.
