Re: Why can't I import my contacts from Orange to Gmail?

Did any of the addresses in the contacts contain commas? Those screw up CSV files when input elsewhere. (For a fairly obvious reason).

I have no reason to think any do; I'm sure I would have noticed. I didn't get an error message just a general refusal. Anyway, as I said, I have got some by sending multi emails with my Gmail address to be clicked. Some I have copied and pasted. Tedious but OK if you do a few at a time. Most of those were Support addresses. And I do have all my addresses in a csv file should Outlook crash! And all my files are saved to the Cloud.

Regarding the transfer of e-mails from EE generally to GMail (not Contacts).

I have used the setting whereby the originals are left on EE (orange, freeserve, fsmail etc).

Having apparently informed all my personal Contacts about the change and also having apparently changed most of my Subscription type, I am now checking my Freeserve e-mail Account each day, to see if there are any New arrivals, noting them and trying to ensure that they are properly updated.

------

It has been interesting to note the number of sites where such updating actions have been difficult and frustrating.

My wanadoo emails are being imported to Gmail at present . Some of the stuff is spam and I'll be glad to leave them behind. I have an Away message for any late comers until they shut it down.
I've had to use other methods to move my contacts. Unfortunately, I have been completely unable to get my Gmail into Outlook; I even had the help of a friend who's a professional techie and in the end he talked me through setting up Windows Mail, which isn't as good on a number of counts. And Gmail support is not helpful - although there is one way to 'talk' to someone but it's hard to find.
I'm still cross with EE for doing this - I was very satisfied with Orange.

My lady-wife (fsmail) would sympathise with you, although I (freeserve) understand and accept EE's reasons for closing them down - its lack of announcements, guidance and general approach has been poor, particularly after suggesting GMail.

I am also surprised at the convolutions of GMail, given its scale etc.

GMail could be a lot more "user-friendly".

I wonder how Thunderbird would have coped, and still could, with both aspects, mail and contacts?

Any POP3 email client would cope better than Gmail Import is doing.

Not if you take a look at the EE Community, https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Email/bd-p/Email .

Agreed it has improved recently; but it took a long time to do so, after the initial announcements - if they happened to send an e-mail to you.

I was on freeserve and my lady-wife on fsmail.

If we had relied on EE's messages, I would have been much later in starting transferring, if I had not seen your message.

If I had not been available, my lady-wife would have not really known what to do, even after receiving EE's e-mail about a week after my one came in.

------------------

Basically also, neither of us had accessed the EE community site; and I don't remember it being mentioned by EE until late on.

Generally the on-line service from freeserve/wanadoo/orange/EE over approaching 20 years has been good; and I have only ever contacted EE with regards to moving through the phases from dial-up to presently VDSL, so I have never had to dig down in to the depths.

Those upgrade contacts have been generally good to in the case of VDSL, excellent.

Thus this poor belated approach to the e-mail servers demise has surprised me.
