Speedtest result change

[link to this post]

Since 1 May my tbb speedtest results have dropped noticeably, but my SamKnows results have stayed exactly the same. I imagine that the tbb result is something to do with changes at tbb. Are others experiencing the same drop in speed?

If it is then your last flash test was http://tbb.st/149365563504505628812 and an early May test with the new tester was http://tbb.st/1493972752109476155

One of the changes has been the removal of some of the smoothing that was applied to the Flash figures, so you get a slightly more up/down effect when the test is running. So might be able to say speeds are perhaps 1 Mbps down in comparison to the old tester, but would need many more tests and do some by hand comparisons of the data to absolutely confirm.

Change is always a shock, but with flash becoming increasingly difficult to keep working and the security issues meaning browsers would block it at time and combined with all the other changes to site infrastructure it was time to leave flash behind, just like we left java behind some years earlier.

Can't say I have, however if those are your results Andrew mentioned I can't say I would have noticed.

Yes, they're mine. It's very obvious on the graph - the results from after 1 May are consistently down from those from before 1 May. I don't really have a problem, more wondering why.
