Amusing results from Whick? broadband test

[link to this post]

https://broadbandtest.which.co.uk/

On my Virgin 70 Mbps / 5 Mbps line (Windows 10):
Which? gives...
Response time (latency) 112 ms
Download speed 155.1 Mbps (wildly varying throughout the test)
Upload speed 75.4 Mbps (wildly varying throughout the test)

SamKnows router results show:
Latency 15.1 ms
Download 76.8 Mbps
Upload 5.0 Mbps

The Which? results seem to go back to the dark days of buffering within software firewalls!

This was discussed in detail a few months back - the same type of bad results were being seen then, 120Mbps of a BT VDSL service for example.

Believe this is a recent test from you
http://tbb.st/1498581256368787355

Not all speed testers web or hardware based are created equally of course.

A variety of issues were raised with Which? when they started their campaign on the speed tester, and updates were said to be on the way, but cannot see anything that has changed particularly. It also chews a lot more data while giving a wrong result, over estimating my connection by 3 Mbps, i.e. 22 Mbps rather than 19 Mbps and have verified numbers watching network interface, oddly figures look ok'ish until the last couple of seconds when they surge for reasons unknown.

Unfortunately a market where one or two options are giving odd results has a tendency to spread the doubt net much wider.

No idea what their system records about a test internally, but our storage of the samples has proven very useful over the years, both from diagnostics for the end user, but for providers and ourselves when seeking patterns between users that point towards something untoward but cause unknown.

Just tried the Which tester, seems it is NFFP as far as my ADSL1 20CN connection is concerned tongue

Thought I'd give the Which tester another chance with my ADSL1 20CN connection, this result from a few minutes ago:-

Well Which got mine wrong twice shown below:

Which Test 001
Which Test 002

Speed Test Net (London Server)

TBB HTML5 Speed Test
TBB Flash Speed Test

So Which's tests are rubbish and incorrect.
