On it's way....

[link to this post]

A few months back I sent Clive Selley an email about my lack of fibre (attempt number 3). This time I managed to get a personal response from Clive who escalated my query to they Fibre team. To my surprise they looked at it and found it be eligible to be upgraded. So yesterday the ground work began...

Cabinets 49 and 51 (same small style PCP are also being upgraded)

Codelook still shows Oct 2018 as a completion data

https://fibreyardley.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/ceo...

But emails from Openreach were initially stating before the end of this year, but change freezes are in place with the holidays etc. To be honest I didn't expect it to move so quick, but glad it is. Thanks Openreach smile

I came across his email address a while ago on here and done the exact same thing, he passed to another team (after i got a response from him) and here we are about to get FTTP going live before crimbo, despite the fact that a few people have told me it would not happen, i am fed up we had to wait so long but at least were getting there, just a shame it will cost so much but i'm sure price will drop over the next couple of years (hopefully)

Seems things have changed - the fibre cab has been installed, but the old small PCP has been replaced by a larger double door type.

Ditto my reply from him has moved things on for me too, just had my ONT installed, well i think it's called that it's the router and battery back up and should be able to order by midweek, so it seems if you are able to get a reply from Clive it sure does move things along at some speed.

Good to hear yours is going well.

Oddly for our area the other small cabinets haven't been reshelled like mine. Hopefully it'll mean G-fast compatibility in the future.

That must be painful for him.

I’ve been impressed with the amount of people working on my cab, had two there yesterday putting cabling in to the Fibre cab and one today connecting things up. I know we’ve had a couple of snow days but I didn’t expect them to play catch-up on the weekend.

Also looks as if the electrics have been plugged in now. Just needs filling in I guess now.

It's now ordered, engineer scheduled at the cabinet 9/1/18

It'll be around a month from digging the hole/build to first connection (I assume I'm the first as it only went live yesterday).

Very happy with the response from Openreach (Clive Selley for the initial escalation and the Chief Engineer / FTTP Escalations Managers area who managed the build).

Speed estimation is around 65mb which is 10x the current speed so that'll do nicely smile

@ kebabselector congratulations!!!

This is the response I got:

Having investigated this issue for you and spoken to our specialist teams I am afraid that the answer I am going to give you is no different to that in which you have received previously.

As you are aware you receive your service from Stechford exchange which was upgraded to deliver fibre broadband using mainly our Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) technology as part of our commercial deployment plan. Many premises connected to it are within reach of the service - this shows the significant investment we’ve made in the area.

However, we’ve been clear in our communications that our rollout programme is strictly commercial and we can only upgrade those cabinets that are viable. Unfortunately, I regret to advise that cabinet 24 (which you're connected to) isn’t currently included in any of our plans because it has a relatively small number of working lines connected to it which unfortunately makes it commercially unviable to upgrade.

Back in 2015 we announced that Openreach will make fibre broadband available to a further 360,000 homes and businesses. This will take availability of fibre optic services for homes and small businesses beyond the current 95% coverage by the end of 2017. This means that even more premises will be able to access modern internet services, including business and educational applications and high-definition video. Openreach remains determined to boost broadband speeds for those on the slowest connections – but overall, London leads many other cities.

Sadly your area is not included in our current plans but we continue to keep all areas that are not yet upgraded under close review in case circumstances change in the future.

Our pledge and Community Fibre Partnerships

Separately, we have pledged to extend fibre broadband for the remaining few percent of UK premises that are unlikely to be covered by public or private commercial plans. This will involve engaging with local communities to explore innovative funding and technical solutions.

It may help if I explain that in more than 200 locations we have worked with the communities directly and are delivering fibre broadband sooner than otherwise would be possible. These solutions are usually better suited for areas that are not in any commercial or public plans.

Our ambition is to ‘never say no’ and if the local community is interested in this option then more details can be found on BT’s Community Fibre Partnership website below:

http://www.communityfibre.bt.com/

I am truly sorry that this is not the answer in which you want to hear and appreciate that it must be frustrating for you; but currently the community funding is the only option available to your area unfortunately, this is subject to change though.

Should the FTTP in this post have been FTTC then?

Sorry to hear that Max, I have had similar emails from the automated rejection dept (probably) - it did take a few years before Clive Selley personally answered an email and escalated it.

FTTP was in his email signature - I knew I'd never get that as no one in Birmingham has got Openreach Native FTTP (as far as I know).

Sorry to hear it's not working out for your either Max, I had about half a dozen email exchanges with Clive and everytime i got him replying directly and very helpfull he has been indeed, however i did get an email from from of the people doing the FTTP work in my case telling me where are at final stages, so i threw a final email of to Clive to thanks him and i got some "Bod" answer the email so i have no idea if it's a case of he answers when he can or email is being filtered now, IMO i'd keep banging on doors until you get what you want, be a pain in the rear be polite but keep going at it.

In my case i got the email saying all the back end work has been done and i now get these stats instead of 3.5mbits i now get the following:
