January Sales: Things to remember

[link to this post]

Currys = Dixons = PCWorld (All part of DSG, which also owns Pixmania, Advent and Matsui)

Dabs = BT Shop = BT Business Direct (All part of the BT Group)

Anyone care to add any others?

Edited to add additional info.

OK, so if I remember that what difference does it make to me? If they offer the best overall deal then I'll buy from them - I don't really care who the parent companies are.

It'll save you a hell of a lot of time browsing at Currys if you have already done Dixons (and other similar examples, such as BT Shop Vs Dabs).

What's more, if you have had a bad experience with one, you can avoid the others. Obviously BT Shop's courier will be the same as Dabs' courier.

That is not always the case though - although I do agree it with currys group - all do seem to be identical although the stores often have different stock levels (even though our local currys and pcworld are next door to each other!).

In that case, I will add Argos and Homebase - Homebase use the argos online catalogue.

Not true. Despite the fact that our PC World and Currys are in adjacent stores often the price of some items, particularly sales ones, differs substantially (20% or more) between them.

Both Argos and Homebase are owned by Home Retail Group.

Ours got knocked into one gigantic floorspace.

PC World has found its level now with the Fridges, Kettles and Washing Machines on the same sales floor.. smile
