Apparent keyboard problem

[link to this post]

I'm visiting a friend on Tuesday evening. He tells me that when using Outlook Express (OE 6 on XP I think) random characters are missed. Apparently not in other applications. I think the keyboard is PS/2 connected.

I'll probably take a spare keyboard with me, just in case.

Any thoughts on what it may be?

Could be some obscure driver problem or system setting?

Has he tried notepad / wordpad / web text?

Wait for it....

Interviewer: ”Is that a bad thing?”

Scottish Labour politician: “No, but they are doing it deliberately.”

Could just be particular keys rather than Outlook. If not, check for malware. Good idea to take a spare keyboard.

It's only OE, he uses Word a lot, as well as other apps. Very strange.

In my experience it is the cat which can interfere with using the keyboard.

They don't have any pets in the house - or children before you ask.

Though I know of a neighbour whose cat jumped on her laptop keyboard and broke off one of the key-tops, she just stuck the unusable key-top on the panel to the left of the touch-pad. Fortunately it was the Z key so wasn't used much grin

There are applications that allow you to change mouse and keyboard settings for various applications - is there one of those running?

Don't know - though I'd be surprised if, consciously, he'd used one.

Can you name a few so I may be able to spot them?

Cannot name any - the only variant I use is in the Logitech software to change mouse parameters from browsing to MSOffice to CAD to Photoshop
