Which portable external drives?

[link to this post]

Need to order three external drives - any comments on:

HGST - Touro or Touro Pro? I use Hitachi Globalstar drives in may laptop and no issues/ Touro[/ulr]

Seagate - Backup Plus or Slim ? Currently use an older Seagate for External storage.
Seagate

I have a Samsung S2 750GB drive, and a Buffalo 500GB drive, had absolutely no problems.

I'm also looking for reliable 3.5" external drives, not interested in any included backup software, just want the drives. Any recommendations?

Unfortunately unable to comment on the ones mentioned, but you might see from my recent post that I'm not at all comfortable with western digital mybook essential.

Further to my previous, I'm presently studying a Which survey. It rates the nine main brands, all of which had at least 200 interesting responses from members, some of which I found v disturbing.
Obviously, for copyright reasons, I can't reveal findings, but you may think it worthwhile to take out a temporary (£1!) membership to find out.

Which surveys are pointless imho - reading reviews on amazon gets you far nearer to the truth.

First recommendation: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Slimline-Portable-Ha...
Second recommendation: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elements-External-Desktop-Ha...

Zen 8000 Pro

The thing about the Touro is that they use the Hitachi drives even though they are part of WD.

Samsung might be worth a look at but only has 12 month warranty - Touro Pro is 2 years. The WD one is only USB2 though and the size of a brick - so not very portable.

In reply to a post by Pipexer:
'Which surveys are pointless imho ...'

Why exactly is that, pipexer? The review takes in approx. 3,000 member experiences, brands ranging from 274 to 527 unbiased responses (the latter happening to be Seagate).
