Billion customer service

[link to this post]

I have just noticed this forum section and thought it worth mentioning the fantastic customer service I recieved from Billion UK.
Having purchased a second hand router I decided to upgrade the frimware without first properly reading the formware upgrade instructions and managed to turn my nice new purchase into a 'brick'.
I found the technical suport section on the Billion UK webste and submitted a support request, I admitted that the router was second hand and I had no idea if it might still be in waranty. Within a day I got a reply with attached 'rescue' software that required me to connect the (supplied with my router) serial cable to a PC to reset the thing properly. The only difficulty was finding a PC with a serial port (had to take my router into work) but it worked and saved my 7402NX from landfill. I later updated the firmware again but followed the instructions, has been an excellent router since.

On a slightly less positive note, why do Billion UK firmware updates seem to lag so far behind Billion Australia, still waiting for IPV6 firmware which OZ has had for months.

I have installed v6 firmware on my 7402nx and had nothing but problems. The firewall is really flakey. I have actually downgraded back to v5 to regain functionality.

Randon packets getting blocked when they shouldn't. Wasted hours on it.

I have a 7800n and upgraded from 1.06d to 1.06g and it has broke the router! Its went from a rock solid reliable router to nothing better than a cheapo £20 router that drops wifi all the time and keeps resyncing every few hours. Utterly dispicable of them to release a buugy firmware to the general public.

The WiFi seems to be the router's weakspot, fails for a lot of people. Already returned my first 7800N last year due to too many dropouts, and the replacement seems to be ok so far. But I reckon it would break again if I patched it to 1.06g

I updated my 7800n to 1.06g with no problems at all. Did you restore to factory defalts after the upgrade? not doing so causes no end of problems with Billion routers.
