DG834GT with different firmware

[link to this post]

Had the latest firmware on my router which is DG834GT_V1.03.22_DGTeam_1018, I would sync at 2500-2600 typically with a 6db SNR

I installed out of curiosity the firmware DG834GT_V1.02.16_DGTeam_0848.zip

I actually sync now at around 2900-3000 again with a 6db snr.

Seems I can squeeze and extra for hundred kbps by using older firmware.

Does this sound right?

You can get the older firmware from this page

An interesting question. I certainly don't have an answer.

It would help to have the diffs between the software sources to view, to see if any changes were made in the calculation of current SNR.

It wouldn't be a surprise though to discover that the current SNR was measured by the chipset itself in its microcode (for want of a word to differentiate flashable and unflashable firmware).

You may have to just go with the flow and be happy with the outcome!

It is possible the adsl driver is different between the versions.

I'm not complaining smile thanks for the comment though.

On my fairly long line I have tried DG834GT, Thomson speedtouch 585 v6 with DMT tool, a BT Business Router, and also a DGN2000.

I find the DG834GT and ts 585v6 get the best speed with a tweaked snr to 6db from the default 9db SNR C&W apply.

However the wireless can be a bit of an issue around the house, would you say I'm better using the DG834GT and configuring if I can the DGN2000 as a wireless repeater. Or are there other routers out therer that would do that all within the one router. The DGN only syncs at about 2200 therefore loathed to use this as the master router.

Could use this as a template as long as the DGN would work with the DG834GT http://www.unix.ms/netgear/

thanks.
