best way to connect tv to internet - dongle or wired

[link to this post]

I am looking to put a tv on the wall in the kitchen. We have 2 other tvs in the house that share a dongle but we are now looking at a different make. The bt router is right by the place where the tv is to go so it seems to make sense to connect it by cable. However what are the consequences if any. We often have 2 computers connected to the internet and we can use i player with no problems. It will save me the cost of buying another dongle but will it slow down the speed? - which has been excellent since we complained and used this site for help.

The cable should be cheaper and more reliable. Why not try?

We have ordered the tv now - I asked because ordering the dongle at the same time would have been cheaper - my son says he has some ethernet cable somewhere so he thinks it should be OK. At the moment we run 2 computers and one tv wirelessly so hopefully we won't be using any more at one time.

Hi, my Samsung TV is connected to the router via Ethernet; I thought £45 for the wireless dongle a bit much, will wait for the price to come down.

Same here Samsung 8000 series with wired connection to a LAN that will support GigaBit and a 38000 kbps connection. iPlayer only dents the bandwidth for me ...
