BT Homehub2 & freesat - lose iplayer every time reboot HH2

[link to this post]

I have a homehub2 and freesat and yesterady managed to connect everything up successfully to access iplayer. I am using bush freesat decoders and had one sucessfully connected using a homeplug (powerline 200M ethernet bridge) and the other using a netgear universal wifi internet adaptor. Both worked well all day. However I have now rebooted my homehub and, as a result, got a new ip address. Nothing now works AGHHHHH! Spent 30 mins on the phone to BT who just kept wanting me to test the line speed (6.5 Mbps) Freesat have told me I need to ask BT for a fixed IP address, which BT do not do. Any ideas.....

Your choices seem to be:

1. I think BT business accounts offer fixed IP.
2. Migrate to a different ISP who offer fixed IP
3. Don't reboot the HH.

Hope you don't mind, but I am joining this topic, more as an interested party.
I am thinking of having IPTV myself. I do not understand why you would need
a fixed IP. I can't believe that Freesat would expect all of it's customers to use
fixed IP addresses. Sorry I can't of much help at the moment. Perhaps other
folk will be able to supply more information.

1. Why should I pay for a business account?

2. I used to have another isp then whenever we got problems with our line, the isp would blame bt and bt would blame the isp.. Also, if I change isp, how do I know their technology will work? BT don't exactly publicise that theirs doesn't work

3. I turn the HH off everynight so that my children aren't on facebook/skype until the early hours.

What I really want is for this technology to work - BT must be one of the most popular broadband providers in the UK so it seems a total scam for freesat iplayer homehub not to talk to each other, with everyone else blaming each other.

As the other poster said, do you really need a fixed IP for freesat?

Having investagied more, it seems that I need an 'automatic' ip address, not necessarily a fixed one and that the HH doesn't do this by default. However no-one at BT seems to be able to tell me how to configure a HH2 to do this...

Do you have a link for that info?

I think you just need to assign a fixed LAN ip address to each of the bush decoders. As the HH is giving the IP addresses out via DHCP, it should be possible to tell it to always give the same one to the bush decoders.

Point of clarification needed.

This is starting to sound like an IP addressing issue within your domestic network,
i.e, with the LAN, rather than a WAN IP address.

Am I understanding this correctly ?

I hope I am not adding to the confusion !
