BT TV Recordings Transferable?

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

We're contemplating moving to Plusnet at some point, but we have a shed load of recordings on our BT TV box that my parents would want to keep. AFAIK, it's not possible to be able to transfer recordings from one box to another (a Plusnet TV box), but am I wrong?

Thanks,

William

I'm not with BT but I do have a BT box which I use as a Freeview box without connection to BT.

If you change your 'supplier' you should be able to keep the box and use it as a normal Freeview box - plug it in to a spare HDMI socket on the TV... so you'll still have all your recordings.

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, that would be fine by me, but apparently my parents think having 3 boxes (the BT and Plusnet box as well as our separate recorder) is "too many"... So, this is why I was hoping it was possible to transfer them over. LOL.

That's why it's always best not to have TV box's from your ISP if you want to keep things for the long term.

These days you can setup media servers (such as Plex) to record your TV programs. I've got mine setup to record directly from my Freesat box.

Right, I see. We wouldn’t have bought BT TV if we didn’t want to access BT Sport etc.

When I left BTTV, the recordings remained but I could not watch any of the ones on the subscribed channels. Worth noting.

Yeah, I read that somewhere. Hmm, guess we'll have to wait until we don't need the recordings...

I have access to all that and every sports channel - and i don't pay a penny. You don't need BT in order to get what BT puts out!

I have illegal access to all that and every sports channel - and i don't pay a penny. You don't need BT in order to get what BT puts out if you're happy to break the law!
Corrected for you - You're welcome smile
