In reply to a post by Hoss28:
I felt the training wasn't long enough.

SVQ/NVQ was also a nightmare especially when trying to learn a new job,and then having to do some in the evenings.

If you're not technically minded like myself, then I'm afraid you will struggle!!

Just a number to management and you will be out the door.

No offence intended but I would not think that this job was suitable for anyone that was not technically minded. I know they really push the customer service aspect but I think being able to understand and learn the work quickly is more important than dealing with customers.

My training begins 5th of march.
Does anyone know of any websites or pdfs that will enable me to get stuck and start learning about the basis of telecommunications engineering.
Dying to get stuck in. And hope to have a small amount of knowledge to give me an upper hand before my training comes around

Thanks

No offence taken!just warning others that this job isn't what it's made out to be.

I have a mate that wants out and he's worked for them for about 10 years

Given time I would of learnt the job I'm sure but not given the opportunity to do so.

I am not sure it would be worth it. Trying to find stuff and learning it as they are going to teach you everything from the very start.

It is good that you are keen but I think they will cover everything you need to know.

Hi everyone, found this forum really hepfull,I started training in august 17 and went live November,I work on FVR and found that although the training wasn't great and didn't cover a lot of what I do there has always been someone to call to help, also helps that I have a good manager which seems to make a lot of difference.Still keep in contact with the guys I met at yarnfield and sounds like Calomi work is a lot harder to get on with, more time related on your jobs.I'm from Southampton and did all my training at yarnfield even though there's a training centre down the road. Some advice when buddying get as many contacts as you can,all the engineers I worked with where happy to give out there numbers and are happy for you to give them a call if you get stuck

I came in on last years intake and there were 23,000 approx applications as of august when they stopped interviewing, and 1500 roles so if u get a start u have done extremely well as i can only assume the application amount will be higher this year allthough the amount of roles has risen to 1750 i believe.

I remember seeing you on this forum posting about getting in. I have got my fingers firmly crossed that I make it this time. I had my assessment on Thursday and didn't hear anything on Friday, which I am taking as a good thing as last time I got a rejection email first thing the next day, so I just have to wait which I am not really enjoying. I had my assessment in Ipswich and I am driving back there again on Monday for a different job interview.

I would love to get the Openreach job as it's going to be a good career rather than just a basic job.
