Suppose I travel 40 mins each way to and from work atm so i'm not that fussed. Just thought we got paid that travel time but nevermind, definitely rather have van at home and obviously save the petrol money!

You are getting paid some of the travel time just not all of it,so for eaxmple i sett off at 7.30 each morning, very rare i get a job within 30 mins as i do FVR and spread out accross massive area,so if i get to my job at 8,30,ive given 7.30 - 8.00 for free, then im on the clock at 8.00,when i set off to go home if i leave my job at 15.40 and get home at 16.40 i have to wind my time sheet back 30 mis to 16.10,thus giving them 30 mins of travel back. The trick is to try and get home around 16.40 each day then when u give ur 30 mins back its on the correct finish time of 16.10 so ur not using any of ur flextime.

On flipside of that if you log on and your first job is round the corner u dont have to leave home till 7.45/7.50,so not giving them full 30 mins, the same if you are round the corner from finishing,if u are only 10 mins away from home on last job u can leave it at 16.00 and get home for finishing time bang on,they only brought in this thing as were sick of paying everyone from their doorstep, you will get used to it and work out hoe to adjust ur timesheets.

It is ok in that sense but they are extremely strict on outside usage of van so i sold my van as it was just sitting on drive and we went down to 1 car and yes it does save day to day money but sometimes u think i only want to nip somewhere but its not worth it.Contstant to what they have you believe they are not monitored 24 hours a day but ur manager can ask for movements within any 24hr period and theres been loads of people sacked for being were there not supposed to be in van or another one is zero tolerance on passengers unless they work for BT you get sacked if caught with a passnger as they are not insured, the old favourite they tell is even if you see a family member and its [censored] it down with rain you have to drive past.:):):):):):)smile

You get an email asking what u would LIKE off at xmas,no one can book any holidays off in december at all no exception, as what they do is sort out the days inbetween xmas so dont let anybody off.If you want an example last manager emailed and said chose preferred days off in order 1-5,i submitted mine straight away and got the 28th/29th off that i wanted and just went in for 1 day(27th),some lads didnt do it straight away so got random days off like 20th/21st or 2/3 jan and worked all through, days they didnt even want off.they only realease so many slots for your holiday group to share so u have to get them in as soon as he sends the email.

Cheers for the info expected something like that. Was curious to hear!

Yeah, the way I view it is everyone has to commute to work for their start time anyway, so it's really no different to any other job. The only difference being is we don't have to pay for the commuting costs which is a bonus!

I can imagine it would be a rough change if you were on a contract that was like the older OR/BT guys.

Are we provided with snow shovels etc?

Just curious smile

Yeah, don't think much work is getting done today. It's turned into a Red warning for central scotland. Roads are pretty crazy!
