I don't do fiber but what you wanting to know?

Just wondering how the training differs, and if anybody has information on Vans etc?

Fibre jointers dont get vans on week 1,it is my understanding just going on information from yarnfield that you wont get a van until week 4/5 as you have to do an extra driving course to be able to tow or to do the cherry picker license, its one of the 2 anyway, the lads on my course where given hire cars but they take them off you monday to friday. All the fibre jointing lads where based at bolton after the 2 weeks at yarnfield and there training is 17 weeks instead of 12 on CAL/OMI or 11 on FVR.

Sounds a hell of alot to take In at first but I'm sure it will start coming naturally! Bet the days have been flying by! Cold what's that? It's summer an't it? 😂

I've just been on with John today getting my tickets sorted! 10 days left for me to wait! Said I'm most likely training Thornaby! Can't wait to get started and stuck in now!

At least 20 out of our 65 had there training venue changed on day 1 so dont bank on it being your closest, also depends what job they give you,if your on CAL/OMI you could be in a few places,FVR is back to yarnfield, fibre jointing bolton,it depends on the need in your area for a specialist apprentice in that particular field

Thanks mate for the info,

I was trying to get my head around what area's/Teams each roles have been allocated.

I'm suprised the Fibre jointing is with the Business & Commerical Delivery Team and there me thinking it will be the infrastructure delivery team smile

The role CAL/OM can this be in both areas Service Delivery and Business & Commerical Delivery Team?

So that leaves Fault Volume Reduction (FVR)- which teams/dept are these involved with ?

Fiber is BCD and deal mainly with underground. You do 17 weeks training and don't get a van till the 5th week although you do get a kettle and microwave in your vans as you spend most of you time working on the UG network out on the country roads you also install fiber in businesses and there is a little pole work involved.

Your still do the first 2 weeks in Yarnfield and the driving assessment on the Thursday but in the larger vans. But week 3 you start with UG training were as the Service Delivery people do frames then you do your fiber splicing then onto Exchange -> Cabs -> Poles

Anyone know if the FVR vans ( I believe are Fiat Ducatos ) can be kept at home or do they have to be kept at the exchange where you're based?

Haven't told them as yet, but it wont be till next month at the earliest, I'm only moving just under 3 miles away, so i cant see it making a massive difference considering my work location is 35 miles away its not going to make much odds! Will add about 5 mins on my journey.
