LILO?

Slackware default, and it just works out the box and is easy to configure.

GRUB is/was another one of these things that instead of keeping everything simple (one job, one task) gets overly complicated very quickly until it is almost alien.

Lilo has a number of significant restrictions compared to GRUB. It's configuration files are just as complicated as GRUB's. It is considerably more fragile than GRUB and it is much more difficult to recover a corrupt Lilo setup. Having experienced this problem with both bootloaders I'll go for GRUB every time.

But I think we are wandering further and further off topic.
