Managing mail on 3 home computers

[link to this post]
Can anyone help with ideas to manage e-mails on the 3 computers I have currently running?

None have Mac OS Server.

Is there a Freeware or Shareware program that could do this.

Currently Apple Mail pulls the e-mails off PlusNet's Servers every few mins and then deletes off there.

What do I need to set up to be able to control e-mails and be able to view them on all 3 computers?

When I had Eudora, you could to a certain extent tell each computer where the mail file was, although you had to be careful not to have more than one copy of same mail open at once.

Web Crossing?
4D Mail??

A

SurgeMail is free but might need few lessons in cmd line stuff!!!

Any experience?

Have you tried using MobileMe. Works with iPhone and as many Macs as you want.
Delete any mail and all macs are updated in seconds. Yearly subscription is required.

Why not just change the preferences to leave the mail on the server for a week?

You can get over the problem of sent mails only being on one computer by automatically cc'ing yourself, the other machines will pick it up.

IMAP addresses this problem, but it involves leaving the mail on the servers. With most mail accounts nowadays that's not a problem, but I don't know about Plusnet.

Despite PlusNet saying they Spam Filter, I get up to 800 per day which means I would rapidly reach the limit.
Got fed up arguing with their helpdesk.

Easier to d/l all mail, use SpamSeive and empty the Trash every day.

Think cc'ing would work but seems fiddly.

May look into Mobile Me, I have subscription (mainly for syncing purposes) but I prefer the interface of an App rather than webmail.

Not really, there are settings in prefs to sort it out automatically. It also has the advantage that as sent mail is now (in effect) incoming, you can set up rules to put it in the right folder tongue

Point taken about the spam though frown

That's why I like Google mail - essentially no limit on the size of your mailbox (and - to date - very little Spam!).

I am a Plusnet user and GoogleMail user - I also have several email addresses and two computers that access email for me.

Basically all email is redirected to the Googlemail address.

Each computer has Thunderbird on it and obtains the mail from Googlemail. The mail is not deleted from the Googlemail server except on a periodic manual basis by accessing it via the browser.

Spam control is processed on Googlemail, minimal spam gets to my computers.

This set up has been working fine for about 18 months.

Can you run the steps by me...

Should I route all mail (I own domain ) to mobile me address then direct each mail app to mobile me??

What about removing from server? Or doesn't that matter??

Sorry if being a bit thick.
