HDMI

[link to this post]

My grandson was here over the weekend with some cheapo Windoze machine that had an HDMI output which was very useful for showing us his pics in HD on the large T/V screen however.
Do any Macs have this facility yet or is there any sort of appendage available for Macs?

Most modern Macs support HDMI with a suitable cable. Here's the word from Apple.

the 2010> mac mini has HDMI output.

a cheaper option, but not as cheap as an adaptor cable, might be the apple TV.

Not just Mac, but lots of computers are coming with DisplayPort (DP) or mini DisplayPort output. You need to convert this to HDMI, and might need to go via DVI first.

Hopefully your Mac or MacBook has a displayport/Mini-DisplayPort connector.

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with cable:

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI as an adaptor:

and others if you need full size displayport to HDMI:

Can get displayport to HDMI cables. Only Macs with built in HDMI will output audio to HDMI.

For Macs without built in HDMI you need another cable to get audio or a converter box.

Thanks everyone. Will get the cable. I don't really need the sound facility, I just need to show the pics.

Why bother with cables Mervt? Apple TV will do the job nicely and provide sound too. It's only a software update away before anything on the Mac, iPhone or iPad will stream to it, way beyond the usual photos and music.

Cable = £22 + P&P

Apple TV = £101 + P&P

Yes, the Apple TV 2nd gen is awesome (I have one!) but for only that one function, if a laptop (MB/MBP) then a cable is cheaper. If a desktop in another room (e.g. 24" iMac) then the Apple TV streaming photos is much more convenient.
