Mavericks and TBBx1 Speed Test

[link to this post]

Hi,

I have a computer running OS X Mavericks and a computer running Windows 7 64.

On the Windows machine (IE 11) I get the following speed test: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/13956...

On the Mac OS X machine (Opera 20) I get: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/13956...

Is there anyway I can improve the TBBx1 on OS X?

That's bizarre - there is no 'in principle' reason the results should be any different (although I *think* there are issues with the TBB tester in OSX).

Have you tried Speedtest,net?

Yes- use Chrome or Firefox.

Safari (and, it seems, Opera) have a problem with Flash on OS X which causes them to top out at ~12.5Mbps, Chrome and Firefox don't suffer from it.

With Safari there's a warning about it at some point during the test, but don't know about Opera.

Thanks Billford. I actually got the warning about Firefox and Safari, so that was my reason for trying it on Opera.

After using Chrome on OS X, I got this result: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/13956...

So it seems to be the problem with the Flash plugin for OS X.

I mis-remembered the message about which browsers were affected- the iMac has been away for some fairly radical surgery (paid for by AppleCare I'm glad to say!) and I've been using the Linux box.

That looks a lot better smile
