how to save memory on a android mobile

[link to this post]

Hi, my wife' mobile has 512 meg, and short of memory. She installed an app to move apps to the sd card which has bags of space, alas it does not work. The ver on her phone is 4.04.She has to decline updates due to lack of memory. I understand that it is possible to delete the cache memory for the apps, but we have no idea how to do this . It seems a stupid system, even my old windows mobile used to offer me the chance to install an app on the sd card.

This item on pcadvisor ties in with what I have been doing on an S2

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/google-android/346...

No need for a third party app.

Have also found some apps occassionally have problems when updating, and for some its a remove app and install latest version from the Play Store.

I presume all data that can be is already on the SD card, photos, music etc

Well my wife cannot update the google keyboard. It download ok then when it tries to install, it says lack of memory even though there are several hundreds of megs left. The phone has 512 meg memory and 1 gig internal mem and almost 15 gig of SD free. The trouble with these android phones is that one cannot get any redress. google is not responsible about android os.

to get the phone to install an apps data properly on an external SD card you to need to "root" the phone, this process is different for most phones and even then may not work on certain revisions of phones

try googling the "phone model + root" and also check out XDA developers forum, again google "phone model XDA developers root"

good luck

As Ianph says, you have to "root" the phone first and gain "superuser" status.
