[link to this post]

Has anybody got the upgrade to Android 5 ? If so what do you think about it ? Several people reported problems, and they have google' own products, Nexus 7.

Seems to work fine on my Nexus 7.

Lollipop has better user interface (IMO) for the settings etc. Google even chucked in an Easter egg of a flappy bird game.

What reported problems are there supposed to be with Lollipop?

Checked my Nexus 7 out a bit more thoroughly now it has lollipop on it.

I found a few issues:-

1) AceStream engine doesn't work. (There is a fix though by googling "[FIX] [Android 'L'] Bypassing the new PIE security check")

2) Bloomberg TV doesn't work.

3) Sky Go doesn't work. (Sky Go always stops working after every Android update, so nothing new there. Eventually Sky will sort it and upgrade their app.).

4) MX player app had to update to get it to work with lollipop.

5) GPlayer had to re-enable software decoder as lollipop managed to switch that off.

Not the best Android update it seems, but app developers will undoubtedly update their apps for lollipop (those that haven't already).

It is not unknown for developers to use features / interfaces / etc which are undocumented / unsupported / or even explicitly documented as deprecated. So it's no surprise when the new version of the os comes along and the app goes "bang". In the app world the likes of Google just roll on and the app minnows have to fix their app or die. In the business world everyone screams blue murder, blames the os vendor and insists that you can't upgrade until... Hence the prevalence of IE 6 and the like. frown

Well I have just upgraded to android 5 on my Nexus 4 mobile. However I now have regrets. I seem to have lost my pop email account. I know that Google have merged all emails into one gmail account before the upgrade to Lollipop version.I elected to keep my pop mail separate. Now I cannot find it. I tried to install a pop mail, but all I get are errors whereas when I installed on kit kat it was straight forward. Right now I would take a downgrade. I cannot see what possible improvemets this upgrade has brought apart from generating some hoha.

I have now resolved the issue. Initially I had difficulty in adding a pop mail. However I removed any requirements for security in both incoming and outgoing servers and the installation was OK.

Problems include :

Touchscreen lagging
Dropping Wifi
Keyboard ghosting and non-detection
Apps not loading (or taking over 30 minutes to load)
Battery issues

Apparently there is a serious problem affecting the Nexus 9 relating to voice recognition.

This lists the problems with Lollipop
