Was wondering if anyone here is using mobile broadband with a fixed IP - does such a thing exist? Thanks.

I could be wrong but I've never seen an option for a static IP on a 3G modem

The only way I know of getting a fixed IP on a mobile network is...

a) Never disconnect.
b) pay a lot of money
c) have a leased circuit and provide your own IP's

I think all of the major 5 networks only give you an internal IP address then use NAT to translate to the external internet.

The cheaper way to get one is possibly look at getting a basic VPN service, or even a VPS with VPN running on that. If you had more than one IP on the VPS for example, you could use DNAT and SNAT to forward all traffic to/from the dongles internal VPN IP to that of an external address.

That sounds like a good alternative - I have my own VPS already, so can set that up. Thanks all.

It is available:

http://www.nucleusnetworks.co.uk/mobile-broadband/3g...

I'm told 3 will be offering it in Q1 or Q2 in 2010.

I thought that, until I tried Orange today. I've got a proper external WAN IP from them.

I dont know if you are still interested in fixed IP for 3g.

www.Fluidata.co.uk are offering it through SIM, dongle, hotspot or router.
